A small voice of dissent

The last thing I wrote here, one year ago, was Right now rumours are swirling regarding Thaksin Shinawatra and possible abuses by the Thai government he was in charge of. If these rumours are true then I do not want him to take over, regardless of how much money he’ll bring to the club. Sadly he did take over and things are not ideal.

It gives me no pleasure to see the state of affairs at the club at the moment. Actually pleasure has been in short supply for me this season. I’ve not really enjoyed the last season to be honest. Shinawatra owning the club has overshadowed everything. We started the season well and I found it hard to work up any enthusiasm. We played our best football for a number of years and I didn’t care. We bought some quality players and I felt uneasy at where the money was coming from.

I think the main issue I have is that I feel that I, and all Manchester City fans, have become powerless. I know that we had little actual power anyway, however now I feel we have an owner who can do what he wants and really doesn’t care what the fans think. We can boycott the games; as I and a number of others are doing; but unless that becomes a mass movement nothing will come of it.

There are many fine City sites around. Clearly a number of people do care about the larger state of affairs with the club. I’m one of them and I have no power. All I can do is voice my opinion and hope that things will change. That will have to do for now.
