A long overdue update

Three things dominate my thinking with regards to City at the moment. In brief they are…

Joey Barton must go

I’ve had enough. At the start of the season I was prepared to give him one last chance, one final attempt to see if he had matured. I’ve given up. The bust up today with Ousmane Dabo is the last straw. I don’t particularly care for the reasons behind it, regardless of those it shows that Barton hasn’t grown up. He’s still a fool who can’t control his temper. He’s talented yes, but at City he’s poisoning the atmosphere. Let him go, take the first decent offer and cut our ties with him.

Sack Stuart Pearce

No surprise here. I’ve mentioned this before. At the end of the season say “Thanks for your efforts, but we’ve decided to go in a different direction.” Then take some time to appoint the right person, don’t just jump for Allardyce because he’s available.

The take-over?

Regardless of who takes over, and I think it’s inevitable that someone will purchase the club, I want to know what they plan to do and how they plan to finance the deal. I’m less concerned about funds for transfers than I am about the long-term security of the club. I don’t want a Glazer-type deal where the club is burdened with new debt. I want a club on an even keel.

Another thing which is important to me is this. I want to know more about the people taking over. Some will call me a fool, however I care whether the person owning our club has a history of human rights abuse. Right now rumours are swirling regarding Thaksin Shinawatra and possible abuses by the Thai government he was in charge of. If these rumours are true then I do not want him to take over, regardless of how much money he’ll bring to the club.
